What happened and what's going on

I lot of things have happened since my last post back in August.  We had a successful fall semester and are now well into the spring semester.  We started our doctoral program in Kinesiology in August and currently have 5 PhD students, including two in biomechanics, Brandon Miller and Jeff Simpson. We also have a really good group of Master's students.  With the help of these students and the guidance of Dr. Chander and myself, we have gotten the Neuromechanics Laboratory up and running. We have a number of projects that we have recently completed or that are being completed examining a wide variety things such as military boots and fatigue, balance and cognition, and hypergravity training.  We are leaving this week for the Southeast American College of Sports Medicine Conference in Greenville, S.C., with 2 doctoral students, 3 Master's students, and one undergraduate student where we will make 7 research presentations, and hopefully recruit some more graduate students.  I'll post an update with some pictures from the conference in the near future.

On a more personal note, Natalie turned one in January, and she definitely keeps us on our toes.  It has been really fun to watch her achieve her motor milestones and observe the differences between her developmental progression compared to Cameron.  Speaking of Cameron, he will turn 5 in March and start Kindergarten in August.  He is a really good big brother that just loves to take care of his sister!

  1. Hi Dr. Knight!!! Hail State!!! I am Elated that we have a PhD program!! I am also excited about the research that you are doing on army boots. Being that this is what caused my injury after transitioning abruptly from a runners shoe. My injury, which occurred after joining the army, eventually led to my discharge. I was honorably discharged due to a medical injury so therefore, I was not compensated for my injury and also lost all scholarships at that time. This is the reason I only have one year of my Master completed. I had no intention of using financial aid as I has already put in the necessary work to obtain my scholarships from The Army, ROTC and Track and field. Needless to say, after being discharged the amount of my student loan was posted back to my account ($7000). This kept me from enrolling due to the fact that I was no longer able to receive my transcript.

Finally after 6 years of fighting this and being given ambiguous information concerning what I should do to get this loan amour removed due to the fact that I gave my time in service until my injury which was documented again after re injuring it on a land navigation exercise, I was finally able to get the loan into the dispute status.

So now that the once unknown delinquent amount is in the dispute status, I would like to know what is required of me to initiate re entering the Exercise Science Master Program. and eventually the PhD program. When I left, my first year of my Master my GPA was 3.67. I am accademically eligible to re enter. What should my next step be. I miss you guys at state. Thank you for enhancing my biomechanical and anatomical wizardry!!!

These days I am a very successful personal trainer using everything that I learned to assist well and special populations. I have seen major progress in my Parkinson's, MS, Quadriplegic, Osteoporotic and elderly population. Most of all I miss the class room. I have been fighting to get back ever since I left. I would love to hear your from you soon. I would also love to know about areas of concentration and current research for Master Students and also if there are any distant learning opportunities that I may be able to partake in due to the fact that I live in New Orleans. Nevertheless, my senior year at state and my 1st year of my master, I was working 3 jobs then driving to New Orleans to help my Dad through some difficulties and veterans rehab program, the be back in class at 8:00. am... I maintained before traveling back and forth yet still kept a 3.67 gpa. I will do whatever it is that I need to do within legal and ethical boundaries to get back into school. It's been six long years and I'm ready to re enter. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for everything Dr. Knight
